Rounding off Ettore Germano’s varied expression from Serralunga d’Alba is the evolved and sophisticated 2011 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito. This wine is already creeping into its drinking window, and I expect it will continue to improve with more time in the bottle. It shows a light garnet color with pretty ruby highlights. The aromas are stitched together in a pretty and fine-tuned embroidery. The finish is a bit bitter and dry, however, and is marked by granite or stony flavors. Maceration times are extended up to 60 days on this Riserva, and the finished wine ages in oak for three years.
