The 2013 Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco is the most austere of these Barolos, but it also holds significant promise. Today, the aromatics aren’t fully expressive, while the tannins are omnipresent. I expect all the 2013 needs is time. Ethereal and also gracious, the 2013 starts to open up in the glass, but there is no substitute for a few years in bottle. Lazzairasco is a lieu-dit in the Lazzarito cru of Serralunga d’Alba, at lower elevation than Santa Caterina. Mid ruby with narrow orange rim. All minerals and cherry fruit on the nose and with hints of dried fruit, which adds to the complexity. Full, supple palate with a powerful but polished tannic finish. Needs much more age, but you can already see it coming together. (WS)
