Decanter 93 / JS 92 / WA 92 pts
Decanter: From the historic Dal Re vineyard with 100-year-old vines at 350m-400m, this doesn’t disappoint, even in a cool vintage. Restrained cassis and milk chocolate, with crafted tannins, firm acidity and a sweet tobacco finish. The palate is tight yet balanced by fruit and alcohol. A precise wine that will age well even without huge concentration.
JS: Pretty aromas of blackberries and walnuts with hints of dried flowers. Full body, a solid core of fruit and a spicy finish. Love the intensity.
WA: This wine needs a little more time to settle. The 2014 Irpinia Aglianico Serpico is a bit rigid and inflexible at first, with pronounced fruit intensity that is direct and sharp. But give this full-bodied Campania red more time to evolve in the glass, and it quietly begins to show its subtle magic. Those fruit tones begin to soften and take on more volume with subtle spice and earthy overtones.
