IWR: The 2013 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a simply thrilling wine which beings with incredible aromatics of fresh dark berries and cherries which come together with spices, pepper, smoke, fresh violets, black olives and forest floor with some herbal and earthy elements all adding wonderful complexity. On the palate this is beautifully structured, with incredible overall precision and balance. It continues to impress with its remarkable class and sophistication through the ultra-long finish. Emidio Pepe has a track record for making some of the very best wines Italy and are considered by many to be amongst some of the most collectable wines in the world. Overall, this is a simply fascinating wine, which is brilliant today, but will ultimately go on to evolve gracefully for many years to come.
