Sweet exotic spices come together with dried and candied citrus peels, black cherries, currants and leather to form a beguiling bouquet on the 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Antica Chiusina. Here I’m finding sensual, round textures, velvety yet not weighty, with polished dark fruits and minerals offset by a twang of citrus, as fine-grained tannins saturate toward the close. It’s long and staining, almost chewy with structure, yet it also possesses all of the primary components for a long and steady evolution. This needs time to come together, yet it’s packed full of potential. I’m looking forward to retasting in five to ten years. Eric Guido Vinous Media, December 2021
