JS 93 / VM 91 pts
JS: Aromas of basil, tarragon, baked strawberry, raspberry and hibiscus. Medium-bodied with fine, slightly tense tannins. Steely character to the fruit on the palate, with a bit more spice coming through towards the finish.
VM :The 2021 Etna Rosso Ciauria is spicy and exotic, with a burst of tangerine that evolves into a mix of ginger, young strawberries and dried roses. This is round and juicy in feel, with fleshy, ripe red fruits offset by hints of sour melon and a saturation of minerality that mounts toward the close. There’s a light staining of tannins that linger, yet they don’t get in the way of the 2021 finishing finessed, with hints of licorice and cherry pits that slowly taper off. The Ciauria is a fresh and fun expression of Nerello Mascalese that’s refined for six months in second-pass French barriques.
