JS 94 / VM 93 pts
JS: A compact, deep nose of black fruit, red licorice and dried purple flowers. Full-bodied with well-integrated tannins that provide a launch pad for the long, relaxed and fruity finish. Lots going on here. Quite subtle, but classy. Enjoy now or hold.
VM: Sweet tobacco and cocoa mix with crushed blackberries, cherries and a hint of mentholated herbs as the 2016 Rosso Sancta Catharina comes to life in the glass. The mix of rich, velvety textures with dark, mineral-infused red and black fruits and bright acids creates a sensation of animalistic elegance. The oak spice on the finish will integrate with time, as this tapers off incredibly long and structured, with hints of cedar and ripe plums lingering long. The Sancta Catharina is a blend of Sangiovese along with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a dollop of Petit Verdot.
