WC Raffaele Vecchione – WinesCritic.com : Incredibly powerful and dense in the glass it moves in a graceful and dynamic way alternating a top player profile in the sensorial richness that touches different spheres. The scents of plums meet black plums, wild blackberries and pressed blueberries. In the background, the shades of cedar, marigold and marjoram animate the secondary scene. Full body, velvety tannins of incredible workmanship and a solid and compact finish that closes savory and juicy, generating a great desire to return to the glass right away. A milestone of Italian oenology is exalted in a solar and powerful year like the extraordinary 2019 in Tuscany. Better from 2024.
WA: Opening to a thick, blackish appearance, the Argiano 2019 Solengo is definitely more concentrated and tightly stitched together next to the 2018 edition. This is a supersized blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, 20% Merlot and 5% Sangiovese that reveals the extra concentration of the vintage, and the important use of new and used French oak (for 18 months of aging), to create a texturally important and aromatically intense expression. The vines are planted in alluvial soils rich in sand and calcareous marl at 280 to 310 meters in elevation. The grapes are farmed organically and are relatively young, at up to 22 years of age. Plummy fruit and ripe blackberry segues to spice, tar and tobacco. This 2019 vintage shows better tannin management compared to the more astringent 2018 edition.
Falstaff: Deep ruby-violet hue. Sumptuous fruit on the nose, reminiscent of freshly pressed blackcurrants, blackberries followed by herbs, and a cigar box nuance. Pithy and punchy on the palate, spanning the palate with powerful dark, rich fruit, exhibiting depth and length concluding with a punchy tannic finish!
